Q. What support do you offer?

Q. How big is the Diplomat jrN? A. 25 x 175 x 110 mm or 1 x 7 x 4 inches (about the size of a slim paperback)
Q. What power does is require? A. The Diplomat jrN comes with its own power adaptor that plugs into the mains supply. (UK, European or US type) but you can run it on 7-9 volts DC @ 500mA
Q. Do I need any additional software? A. The software to drive the Diplomat is contained within EPROM. However to initially set the Diplomat up you will either need a simple terminal or a PC running a terminal emulation.
Q. Can the Diplomat jrN act as a Telnet server ? A. Yes, the Diplomat JRN can be configured as either Client or Server dependent on how you design your network. It can operate as a basic Telnet server if you assign it TCP port address 23 but it is not restricted to Telnet. You may operate either UDP or TCP protocols and use either 7 bit ASCII or full 8 bit transparent binary.
Q. Do you have an unboxed version? A. Yes we can supply all our products in bare board form for OEMs to package in their own equipment. We can also customise, if necessary, to suit a particular specialist application.
Q. How do I set RS232 parameters such as baud rate, parity, stop bits, etc.? A. A dumb terminal (or PC running a terminal emulation) is plugged into the RS232 port of the Diplomat jrN. Typing CTRL/P will bring up a menu on the screen from which you can change these parameters from the factory default of 9600bps, 8N1.
Q. Are these settings preserved over a power down? A. Yes. The Diplomat jrN retains the settings non-volatile memory (BBRAM).
Q. How do I specify the IP address to use? A. This done via the Network Control Menu
Q. Can I set a port number? A. This is also done using the Network Control Menu.
Q. What data rate does it support? A. From 75bps to 19200bps. We can also supply custom speeds on request.
Q. What about security? A. The Diplomat jrN now has a mini Firewall feature. Up to 8 IP addresses and ports can be stored in the Diplomat jrN so that only data from one of those specified will be able to start a TCP session or enter a UDP exchange.
Q. What is the data format? A. The format is normally 8 data bits, no parity and one stop bit to allow full transparency. Where the JRN needs to detect control characters it masks to 7 bits before testing.
Q. How do I terminate a TCP session? A. The session can either be broken remotely using a standard TCP close sequence or by a new session being started from the same remote IP address. The session can also be broken by dropping DTR, if this option has been selected, or by just typing CTRL/R.
Q. How can I find out more? A. Go to http://www.lucidata.com/docs.htm and download the manual which is jrN-ASV.pdf
Q. What are the power requirements of the device (i.e. voltage and current)? In our applications it is often inconvenient to connect an AC adapter. A. There is an on board 7805 regulator so you can feed it 7volts DC min to 9 max at about 500mA on a 2.1mm plug.
Q. How long does it take to install? A. As long as it takes to plug in three cables and turn on the power!
Q. Can the firmware in the device be changed by the user, say for the purposes of upgrading the software? A. Yes. The firmware is a single socketed EPROM.
Q. Does the converter pass the IP packet completely through to the serial interface, or is the packet header stripped off? A. Only the payload is delivered to the asynch port.
Q. Can you have many Diplomat jrNs on the same subnet? A. Yes, of course, provided they all have unique IP addresses.
Q. What support do you offer? A. We offer telephone support during normal office hours (UK time). We will respond to all email queries within 24 hours or less.
My question is not here! email Lucidata and we will answer it within 24 hours
